Why do I Coach?

Initially when I first started coaching strength athletes I had no intention of pushing my services. I began coaching some of my friends that frequented the gym for free in order to get them exposed to the sport. I applied some of the principles I learned during my time working with my old coach Evan Chaffey. The athletes/friends I was coaching started hitting new personal bests and were communicating with me with how much they enjoyed strength training and the coaching I was providing. For me personally, seeing my friends achieve their goals both inside of the gym and outside from my coaching really gave me the itch to try and potentially pursue coaching as a business down the line.

In my second year of university, I got offered an opportunity to intern as a strength and conditioning coach for our varsity men’s rugby team. This opportunity further sparked my love for learning how to train effectively in order to optimize performance on the field and in the gym.

In my 3rd year of university I decided to take on a coaching position for our university powerlifting club Brock Barbell. At that time I had coached around 5 lifters or so for free, and continued to coach for free for some of the members on the team.

Now that I explained my start in coaching, I would like to dive into “why I coach?”. For me coaching has allowed me to expose others to how strength training/powerlifting helped me find a competitive outlet but more so how training impacted my work ethic and mental health for the last 6 years. Developing both personal growth in and outside the gym over my years in coaching created close relationship that has impacted me as a person. I am a better person because of coaching and I hope to continue to push my services and create a community of individuals that use training as an outlet to deal with life’s struggles.

Lastly If you want to know what it's like to be a part of the Adaptive Training Systems crew, please reach out to me or our athletes and I'm sure they would love to explain how they thrived with my guidance.
